Recommended Nylon Gun Belt

As an alternative to leather, ballistic nylon gun belts have become very popular.  Some of the reasons to explain their growth in popularity are listed below:

  • Ballistic nylon gun belts tend to be less expensive than their leather counterparts.
  • Nylon is extremely strong and actually has a higher tensile strength than leather.
  • Nylon is amazingly durable and water resistant.  Truly a workhorse, ballistic nylon belts can go into places that you wouldn't want to take a nice leather belt.
  • Overall, ballistic nylon gun belts tend to be lighter weight and thinner than a comparable double thick leather gun belt.

Over the years a number of companies have jumped into the ballistic nylon gun belt market.  Although there are several good manufacturers out there, I still believe that the Wilderness Instructor's nylon gun belt is the best on the market today.

Wilderness Instructors Belt

I say that for a number of reasons:

  • Wilderness has been in business for nearly 20 years, and was one of the early producers of ballistic nylon belts.  Their "Instructor's Belt" has to be one of the most copied nylon gun belt styles on the market today.
  • Wilderness is truly a cutting edge company in terms of nylon gun belt design. They are constantly testing and refining their belt products.  Many nylon gun belt manufacturers on the market today, haven't made any significant changes or product enhancements in years.  Wilderness takes an entirely different approach as they are always testing and evaluating design changes.  Their patented Instructor's belt buckle has under gone a number of design changes since it's inception.  In addition, Wilderness utilizes real world testing and evaluation through law enforcement and military personnel worldwide.
  • Wilderness ballistic nylon gun belts are produced entirely in the US at the Wilderness facility in Arizona. Aside from the positive aspect of keeping jobs and revenue in the US, this allows Wilderness to control and monitor the quality and processes used in the construction.
  • The Wilderness line of belts is amazingly strong.  The 5 stitch Instructor's model has a tensile strength of 7000 to 8000 lbs.  That is certainly more than enough to provide a great support base for your weapon and gear.
