Recommended Leather Gun Belt

Let me take a moment to talk about the leather gun belt that I recommend and the reasons that I recommend it.  The leather gun belts that I think are the best gun belts on the market for the money are the Gunner's Alley line of Gun Belts.

You are probably thinking that stands to reason as I'm affiliated with Gunner's Alley.  Well, yes and no.  Let me provide a little bit of background about the Gunner's Alley belts and then you may have a better understanding of why I feel that they are such a good value.

Gunner's Alley Gun Belt

For starters, the GA belts are made from 2 layers of bullhide.  Notice that I said bullhide and not cowhide.  What's the difference between the two you ask? Bulls are the males of the cow species and grow up producing a chemical that is similar to testosterone in humans.  This chemical makes bulls significantly larger, more densely muscled, and more aggressive than female cows.  It also makes the bull's hide much denser and stronger than a female cow hide. These properties make bullhide an outstanding material for gun belts.

The GA belts have 2 layers of 6-7 ounce bullhide that is glued together and then stitched together.  To eliminate stretching, the bullhide strips are mounted together in a manner where the grain from each piece runs the opposite way. This technique really cuts down on the typical stretching that occurs with traditional cowhide belts.

The GA belts are completely hand crafted one at a time.  This means that the leather is cut by hand, stitched by hand (using a machine), dip dyed by hand, and then finished off by hand. The belts are produced on a made to order basis to the buyer's specifications.

A few more reasons why I feel that the GA belts are such a good value and an exceptional product:

  • Some manufacturers dye both strips of leather. Notice that the inside of the GA belt is not dyed.  This is done to ensure that no dye bleeds off onto your pants or clothes.
  • Looking at the images above, notice how smooth the edges of the belt are?  This process is also done by hand to minimize any wear on the holster attachment points as well as the belt loops on your pants.
  • Last, but not least.  The price.  Although of comparable quality and construction, the GA belts are priced well under the typical market value of comparable custom belts such as Mitch Rosen, Lou Alessi, Milt Sparks.  In short, you get a whole lot of belt for the price.
